I was about to rate this place 4 stars, but the poor service we received knocked it down to 2. The interior of Hamlin Corner is absolutely beautiful. I love the large bar and the openness of the entire restaurant. We were promptly greeted by our server and he told us about the specials. I asked if it was possible to get fresh mozzarella (the sliced kind, not shredded) on a pizza and he had to ask the kitchen. Unfortunately, the kitchen said it was "too hard" to do that, so I couldn't get my margherita pizza with fresh mozzarella. He assured me that the shredded cheese was just as high of quality, but it still bugged me that they had a fresh mozz. appetizer but they couldn't put it on a pizza. I ended up getting a small, ultra-thin crust pizza with light cheese, ham, onion and green pepper. It was so good! The crust was very thin, but still super flavorful. There was the perfect amount of cheese for me (i.e. very little, as I requested) and the salty ham was delicious. My husband really enjoyed his deep dish pepperoni pizza as well - he can usually finish anything and he could only get 3 pieces down before he was full! My mother got the short rib grilled cheese and raved about it - very tender short ribs and the baguette it was on was chewy and packed a lot of flavor. However, the entire time I ate, I had no water. We had all ordered beers and all of our beers were empty, along with my water glass. After the food was dropped off, our server never returned - although I watched him leaning against the server stand the ENTIRE time. He clearly had no interest in serving his guests. I ended up having to drink my husband's water as well, so when the server finally came by to drop off our check, we had 3 empty beers and 2 empty water glasses on the table. Did he offer a refill? Nope, he just took our credit cards and ran off. Very disappointed in the service we received. I would love to return for the food - but will I? Probably not for a while - I hope this server gets more training or finds a job he actually wants to do.

I wanted to give this four stars, but I cannot think of a justifiable reason. I went in to watch some NBA finals action, and every TV was on the game (hopefully, they mix it up more when there are other options) and with sound at that! There was no seat in the house without a good view of the game (since every tv was on it). They have plenty of beer on tap including seasonals for many Michigan and nearby breweries. The cherry on top was the braised beef nachos. They did the cheese right, without drenching everything in cheese sauce (WTF is cheese sauce anyways?). This place has definitely solidified a spot on my game day rotation.

Are you a dude that wears baseball caps everywhere? Are you someone that walks into a room and identifies 3 females you want to bring home with? Do you enjoy bringing your friends to watch top gear over and over again? If you answered yes to all, then this is your place. Attention! This is your place! This establishment has Excellent service where you have to act like an idiot to get the staff's attention. A place where you will either discuss sports or your disgusting outfit. Do you have enough cologne on? You don't. Are you hoping to dance with an attractive women? You won't. So come on by. Make sure to bring your wallet and your game face... Because you are entering the danger zone.

Probably the worst experience I have ever had...my hands are shaking typing this after waiting for nearly 3 hours, was verbally assaulted when asking why underage and illegal Ids were constantly being handed back out to other patrons.... I wondered why people said to stay away, my wonders have been quenched. Went once, it was one to many - stay away.

Tons of taps, big TV's and Bham Primo's pizza...what more could you ask for.

Hamlin Corner is a fun addition to Royal Oak nightlife. Our party of seven was quickly seated despite a packed house, which was pretty impressive. Hamlin Corner's beer menu is extensive, with over 50 choices that include a good number of Michigan craft beers. Pizza is only $1.79/slice, but be aware that it's "party store" pizza, as a couple members of our party noted. Other menu choices were tastier, including chicken and waffles with buffalo syrup, mac & cheese, and steak tips with Gorgonzola zip sauce.

The bar staff requires a lot of training like not continuously flipping hair around bar, squatting on top of the liquor bottles, etc.

Hamlin Pub is the perfect addition to downtown Royal Oak. Lots of big screen TVs for games, spacious comfortable bar area, comfortable outdoor seating if its a nice day. Extensive list of craft beer on tap, there is even a sparkling wine on tap. Primo's pizza is great, and also available for late night carry out. The burger with Gorgonzola and caramelized onions was very tasty, as was the chicken and waffles with just the right blend of savory and sweet. The sauces are all made in-house. We have also had wonderful service. Brandy and John have been our servers and they were both knowledgable and attentive. Very good price point for food & beverages. They bring in a DJ late night on weekends so go early if you want a low-key atmosphere.

The low ranking here is basically directed at management. This is ourv3rd or 4th visit as it is in the neighborhood. We arrived at 6 pm on a Sunday evening. The crowd was sparse but the afternnon basketball games had just concluded. Although there was a notice please wait to be seated, it took nearly 5 min before anyone approached us to seat us. It was snother 5 minutes before a waitperson approached us. Then it was as though she was exhausted. No exhibition of customer service. The meal seemed to take longer than at similar restaurants. The food was good. The patty melt was flavorful and would have rated higher if it had been kept warm after it was cooked. My companion ordered a quesadilla that was delivered to the table without salsa fresca. It took another 5 minutes to get that delivered. The waitperson indicated she would address the food temp with the mgr. The mgr gave us a 10% discount, but did not stop by the table. I am not a high maintenance diner but expect management to be active. This seems to be a consistent theme on reviews on this restaurant.

SPORTS BAR?!?! More like douchey club. Went there to watch a football game. Big mistake. It's too bad because it had a lot of potential. Won't be going back. Should have known something was up when I noticed all the roid raging bouncers.

Have been there about 5 times. And have had great food and great service. Every time I have been there. Last time was waitress Dayna. She was very good. Keep up the great service. There. Thank you.

What is up with the potato skins - the order consists of 3 greasy potato wedges, a tiny bit of chevre cheese , and some inedible prosciutto (when it cooks off like that it turns into leather). Not good...not good at all. Also, I am positive I had the same bartender as the previous reviewer....There are way too many people looking for work right now to have to deal with a rude and indifferent bartender (btw, the place wasn't crowded at ALL...... Inside looks nice though...too bad that's all they have going for them

Stepping foot into Hamlin Corner was by far one of the worst experiences I've ever had in my life. The service is absolutely horrible and the bouncers are extremely aggressive and violent. My girlfriend had some trouble with her credit card going through the processor so my friend picked up the tab for her. Not a big deal, right? So a few minutes later two huge, scary looking bouncers approach my girlfriend and tell her she needs to leave. She wasn't even given the chance to enjoy the drinks that the friend paid for. Then I ask the bouncers what just happened and they told me she had to leave. I call one of the bouncers a dick for what he did and he told me I had to leave. I said fine. I grabbed my jacket, put my hat on, and proceeded to walk out of the bar. Apparently the bouncer didn't feel like I was leaving fast enough so he put me in a chokehold (cut off my air) and dragged me out. And it wasn't just one bouncer that was involved in this process. It was originally two huge guys and by the time I was at the exit 5 bouncers had surrounded me. It was really a scary and threatening experience. Anyone who doesn't believe me is more than welcome to get in touch with me and speak to my friends who saw everything. I'm very upset that we have such a scummy establishment in our community. Hamlin Corner clearly mistreats its patrons and I would NOT recommend anyone go to this place. Btw, I never write Yelp reviews because I just never have enough motivation or time. But this particular experience really rubbed me the wrong way and I want to make sure people in my community don't experience what I experienced there. Just read all the other reviews on here - you'll see.

I expected more from this upscaled Hamlin. The so called "original Italian" sandwich seemed nothing more than bread and lunchmeat which is odd because the Hamlin in Troy makes a great grinder. Service isn't bad and it is fun to watch the wait staff climb over the liquor because of a poor design. This place could have been great but it's just another bar.

Went to Hamlin Corner for lunch to check out the new spot in Royal Oak. The place is nice with plenty of monitors to watch the game. The decor is sharp and the lighting is nice. Those are the only reasons this place is getting 2 stars because everything else was terrible. I have 2 words for the cook... salt and pepper. Every thing that came out of kitchen was bland and unseasoned, like nursing home food unseasoned. Also the service was a bit sketchy as it took a very long time for our food to come out and the place was not busy at all. I probably will give it one more try to see if the pizza is any good. I have a bad feeling that this place is going to be in trouble with the mediocre food.

Eh. Just... eh. Went with expectations of an upscale sports bar... which the interior definitely suggests, but the food does not. The food was horribly disappointing and overpriced. The service was mediocre but the ambiance made up for it. Also, we noticed that they charge for parking there which seemed odd for the location. We got lucky and snagged some street parking for free. We probably won't come back.

This was my second time at Hamlin. Both visits were met with great food, friendly and very competent service, and a terrific atmosphere. I have tasted a few great dishes from the menu. Most notably were the French dip, beef sliders, and nachos. Very fresh ingredients and loved the pickled cucumbers on the sliders, great touch! My friends had burgers and salads and all were very happy with their meals. Management was friendly, introduced themselves, and the place was hopping but not out of control.

Went on a mid-Saturday afternoon with my teenaged son. Very few people there, but my father bragged about the best chicken wings he every tasted, so we tried it. Friendly and attentive wait staff, a small but well-focused menu. My son had the wings with BBQ sauce (no sense of adventure) and by the waitress' recommendation, I tried the french dip. She also recommended a good beer to try along with my sandwich. The food was good, but worth the $38.00 tab? (1 appetizer, 1 sandwich, 1 beer and 1 soft drink) I'm not so sure. But...I will try it again. I like that it's off the beaten path from the downtown mayhem, is roomy and modern. I'll go back.

The pizza they serve is by primos pizzeria. (You may know the spot in Birmingham) But I was really excited for this place to open, don't get me wrong the customer service and facility definitely exceeds all expectations. However, in my opinion the food is just average and is similar to any other hamlin pub. I've had the pizza which is average, the nachos are the typical pile of nachos and the soup was quite tasteless... Improvement opportunities there

Lots of staff and service was poor. Sports bar but I had to ask the manager to turn on the Tigers . Extensive beer list and decent food albeit overpriced. Parking is an issue as well.

I'm honestly shocked about the negative reviews below mine.. I suspect competing establishments in the area are nervous about the competition and are leaving these comments out of fear they might lose business because I experienced nothing but the best service in all aspects of my two visits to Hamlin Corner: I was in town visiting my parents & friends from back home over memorial day weekend and a few of us decided to come check this place out after a movie friday night... the place was packed!! A lot of attractive people (clientele as well as staff) in their mid 20's - mid 30's age range and excellent service. Our bartender Shilvonne was super friendly & engaging with us, and made great drink recommendations & served us in a timely fashion which was impressive because of how busy the front bar was. I loved the atmosphere, several TV's on every wall and the DJ had an awesome music selection (a good mix, unlike many DJ's who play only hip-hop/clubby songs).. This is the sports bar that Royal Oak needs to make it a perfectly well-rounded town. I also appreciated the classy decor, the windows that fully open to the outside on warm nights, the outdoor seating, and the clean bathroooms (a rare find late on a Friday or Saturday night in downtown royal oak). Also...... They have my favorite Champagne on Tap..... How cool is that? We ended up coming back the following night just for two or three drinks and some appetizers before a friends birthday party down the street and our server Jonathan was as sweet as pie & again brought our orders in a timely fashion despite his busy section of tables. The food was delicious! Next time I come back I'm really hoping I will be able to try the brunch menu. I was very impressed with the quality of the food, (again, rare to actually find a sports bar that serves good food). I can tell the managers take their work very seriously and it shows. Thank you for a great time & Keep up the good work Will be coming back the next time I am home in Detroit!! P.S. One more thing: my boyfriend wanted me to mention the large selection of craft beers from all over the country... great selection! We love bars that go above and beyond with their beer list.. Hamlin Corner must have had 50+ taps! Un Real!
I really like this bar. Best new addition to royal oak! Great food! They even serve primos pizza which is wonderful.

$22 for mediocre mac and cheese and a Stella. I know it's downtown Royal Oak so I should expect these kind of prices but I just didn't see or experience anything special or exceptional about this place. The service was good and the staff were very friendly but the menu was about as boring as it gets.

It started off well, got there around 745-8p, were told that we would have about an hour wait. So we got a few drinks at the bar, which I was really impressed by the great selection they have had. We then we seating a little before 9p and were told we would have to be done by 10p, since we they were seating us on what turns into a dance floor at 10p. We made sure to order as soon as we sat down so we could make sure that we were done by 10p. After we ordered it was all downhill. 40 mintutes had passed since ordered our food and we hadn't even received our soups or salads that were ordered. All other tables that were around us when we sat down had been cleared, the DJ was setting up and people were starting to sit down around us in what looks to be a VIP seating area around the dance floor. While this is happening we keep seeing the hostess and managers point to our table, so naturally we are wondering if they are going to move us or what. Finally someone comes over to the table, I'm not sure if he was a manager or anything since he never introduced himself and says, "so what's the problem guys." I was a little shocked since we hadn't said anything to anyone but then my girlfriend jumped in and said we still have not gotten any food that we have ordered about 45 minutes ago. The guy says he will go check on everything and get it out as soon as he can. Then we have another gentlemen come over to the table, he throws a business card on the table and says he is very sorry for what is happening and he "will take care of you," he also added on how he didn't want this to be put on Yelp. After looking at the business card, we see it is Anthony Owner/Partner of the Hamlin Corner. We all thought it was strange that he just throw his business card on the table without introducing himself. So we finally get our food which is not all that great, we got an italian sub which is about the same quality you get from Subway but for triple the price and without being toasted. We also got the mac and cheese which I thought would be baked and not just with adding a couple of cheeses to a Kraft box. Once we were ready to leave we had to ask multiple times for to go boxes, which by the way are very nice. We get our check and see that Anthony took care of us by taking $8 off our bill. Not sure how that was "taking care of you" but he did make our decision to never go back there easier. -Had to edit since I can't use the owners full name

Excellent beer selection, I like IPA and had a Stones followed by a Two Hearted. Went with the recommended in other reviews sirloin tips which were very good, others in my group also ordered them and wished they ordered more. For main course had the Phili steak and cheese, well prepared and taste was great but a little light on the steak - could have used just a little more. Service was fine though I see other reviews that complain, went on a Tuesday and was not that busy. I would definitely recommend to others, and go back.

They charge cover for guys, and inside the music is way too loud and the crowd is very black finn. Tables are "reserved" outside is very small. Our waitress was really nice but this is pretty typical Royal Oak.

I don't understand how the appetizers are so good while the entrees are so underwhelming. The wrap my date ordered was swimming in dressing. The chicken I ordered was as dry as can be. The service was terrible. The steak tips on the appetizer menu are fantastic though. Great place to grab a beer and watch a game, but I wouldn't recommend going for dinner.

Janice P.
Thought the variety of beer was great, service was great, but the food left a lot to desire. Ordered the truffle potato skins and the chicken and waffles. Potato skins were dry and had too much potato. Chicken and waffles were probably the worst I've ever had. First time I've ever had dry fried chicken. They use chicken tenders, which I usually enjoy more since it's boneless but maybe they would've been better off using bone-in. The chicken was so dry and tough, I could barely cut it using a fork. The waffles looked like frozen generic waffles. I might come back since it's right around the corner and the service was very attentive/responsive but I am not sure I'll try the food again.

OK, first time opening night, sort of. This is a decor/food review only. If it turns out to be a Black Finn later night crowd, my apologies in advance. Food was great! Salmon on grits was awesome and finally, drumroll please.........a downtown Royal Oak bar/restaurant with the best wings for miles! If you're a serious wing guy or gal, and I don't mean Detroit Red Wings, your prayers have been answered. Flat out no better anywhere. And a generous portion. Cobb salad was a bit wet and not thrilling. Need to work on that for $10. Great beers, OK wines. Service, loved our waitress, but had to ask for bread and still never received it and not certain they want you to ask for it. Bread's a staple so not sure what's up with that. The place was beautiful, they really did a wonderful job, TV's obviously EVERYWHERE. Because of the salad thing and no bread, going with a 3 star. First night can't be too critical. Hell, I'd give them 3 stars for the wings but seriously, a bar that can serve a salmon that good for $17. They have some mojo.
(3)
Trish P.
I'm giving 3 stars not because of the quality of food/drink, atmosphere, or variety of food & drink choices. Those are all 4/5 stars. I'm giving 3 stars not because of rude service because the staff is friendly & polite for the most part (4 stars). However Mike, the bar tender, gets 5 + stars! He's the best. He's friendly, polite, knowledgeable, and makes great suggestions. He makes the expensive drinks a little less painful to pay for. I'm giving 3 stars for these two reasons 1.) I believe the menu is overpriced by about 10% - 12% 2.) On several occasions, my bill has been $20.40, just as an example (dollars & some change), I pay cash, $30, the server asks me if I want change (Which shouldn't even be asked. clearly it's not the norm for someone to give a 50% tip), then when they bring my cash back, it's $9. The .60 just disappears and apparently, the server assumes I don't want my .60 cents. I haven't said anything yet because I thought maybe it's a mistake. But it keeps happening and next time, I will definitely say something. I realize it's only .60 cents but still, it's MY .60 cents and it's not up to the server to just keep it without me giving it to him/her. It's pretty much stealing and is totally inexcusable. Thanks in advance for taking my feedback into consideration.

This place is not worth it.. Not sure why you would want to go here? It's half empty. And if the bouncer kicks you out for someone who flips your cap, when you're sober to type a review you know he's on a power trip. FYI his his name Brad Management needs to re-evaluate their business model.

DONT GO HERE IF YOU EXPECT SERVICE! I was just here, put in a food and drink order, but only received the drink. After being there about an hour and a half of sitting at the bar attempting to flag down a bartender, I decided to get up and slowly put on my coat, but as no one said a word I just left... BTW - I totally respect the service industry and respect the work they do, but this was undeniably bad! I have NEVER just walked out of any place!

Good: The food is good and I've always left satisfied. The beer selection is solid as well, a lot of Michigan craft beers to choose from. Lots of TVs ( Decent place to watch a game) and it is clean. Bad: The wait staff is robotic. I've been in a couple times the last few weeks and they have 0 energy. I understand that working a Monday night isn't prime money making hours but we're a large table, at least TRY to seem enthusiastic. Funny side note, when I give you $30 on an $18 bill and you return with the $10 I gave you and two $1s you will get a $2 tip due to your lack of understanding. The food is definitely overpriced, by a good 10-15%. Update: Dragged to this place again and they were out of my first two choices on the beer list. Service was super slow too, in an almost empty restaurant. Jon Taffer would "shut it down" in a heartbeat.

Came in here again last Saturday to use the $25 gift card we won at trivia on our last trip. This will be my last time here. We had two drinks each. We were hoping to get an appetizer as well. Not one of the three bartenders working asked us if we wanted food despite a long, exaggerated perusing of the menu and placing it blatantly on top of the napkin holder. This was at about 5:30pm on Saturday - well before it got busy. Maybe 20 people in the entire place tops. On top of that, we overheard the bartender explaining why there was MSU stuff all over the place - "It's a business decision. State fans drink more." Whether or not that's true, the answer should have been, "The owner is a huge State fan." This place is all kinds of suck.

I'm really surprised by the negative reviews here. I get it, it's not the best place ever, and from what I've heard the vibe is completely different now than it was when it first opened. However, I've been here for a lot of sports games (Lions and the World Cup mostly), and it's always been enjoyable and easy. We've always been able to make a reservation to watch a game with a big group, even big ones like the USA games for the World Cup where it was packed in there. I also don't think the food is that terrible and actually think their pizza is good for bar pizza. I wouldn't order it if I wanted pizza carry out, but it's good for a snack while you're there for a game. Plus, the beer list is pretty good. I'd rather go here than other "sports bars" in Royal Oak where it's crowded, awful, and you have to stand the whole time. I did go to Hamlin this weekend for the first time at night, and I didn't think it was that great. It wasn't very busy, they had a live band for part of the night, and it just didn't seem like a super exciting place to be on a weekend. If that's where the negative reviews come from, I guess I understand a bit more. But if you just want to grab some food really quickly or need a place to go for a game, I definitely recommend it! I also heard that their brunch is pretty good, but I haven't been so can't really comment on it.

I've been here twice, and both times the food and service were on point. Once was during a sports game a while back, and Hamlin was pretty busy. The other time was on a random Sunday night, when the BF and I sat at the bar and chatted with the bartender while enjoying some craft beers. The bartender said it gets pretty packed with a clubbing scene on Fridays and Saturdays - will have to check it out sometime.

This place blows. Flat out sux. I'm sorry what a pretentious place. I have been there 3 times at different times and at least they are consistent. Bartenders and waitresses are rude. It would be great if we were at Ed Debevic's or Dick's Last Resort, but we aren't. Last time I stopped in for a quick beer and to catch the 3rd Period of a Wings game at 4 in the afternoon. The stools at the bar were full, so I sat at one of the tables. I was promptly escorted to the side of the place, seated alone with out a good view. To top it out, the waitress didn't come by for over 10 minutes of GAME time. When she finally got there, I was in the process of leaving, and I won't be back. My advice - SKIP IT. There is so much better in RO!

We went last night for Dinner & my boyfriends first experience there. I ordered a turkey Burger & he ordered the black bean burger. They brought out my burger & messed up his order. So as my food sat there for 15 minutes, His finally came out, where it looked liked it was burnt and the cheese wasn't melted & just hard cheese laying on top of the patty. Visually not that appetizing. We waited and waited while not eating our food because the server never checked on us. Finally a manager came over & just kind of stared at us instead of offering anything to better our experience. (Plus the server out loud told us we were her last table "So of course this had to happen to her at the end of the night!") He did end up taking it off the bill. Just a crappy over all experience there.

So I had the tenderloin tips, which were delicious. Our server was great, Hailey. The place looked really good. Noise was kind of high but the rose bowl was on so we expected that. What wasn't nice were the bathrooms. I still wanted to work on drinking all of the beers on the beer list, but after the trip to the bathroom by myself and the person I was eating with we couldn't bring ourselves to eat dinner there. If the bathrooms looked this way, what did the kitchen look like? No thanks. I waited but no response from management.

Great corner bar with a bit more upscale sports theme than the rest of Royal oak establishments. They have 50 beers on tap, including two German Hefeweizens. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of their food. Whether it be the apps (pretzels, braised beef nacho) or entrees (steak and cheese, salmon, or pizza), you can't go wrong. Since I moved downtown, this has been my go to bar.

Came in Saturday about 5:15 for dinner and a couple of beers before catching a movie at the Main Art theater. Great service, great beer selection- local and national craft list. I ordered the baked penne pasta with a cesar salad, while my husband ordered the steak and cheese sandwich with curly fries. Salad was completely dry so I asked for a side of dressing; the croutons were tasty but hard enough to chip a tooth. Pasta was good with basic marinara and melted cheese. The three meatballs were incredibly dry, didn't have more than a bite. My husband said he'd had much better philly cheese steaks at Sneakers Pub, but the curly fries were absolutely amazing - best part of the meal. We'll be back for beers, and Primo's awesome pizza. Great place for watching sports with friends.

Sure, it's pretty inside, but that's about it. The good looks can't hide the fact that this place is run by someone that has absolutely no clue how to properly run an establishment. The food is mixed, either it's good, or pretty bad. This seems to vary from week to week when I went here. One week the MacNCheese was good, the next week it was totally bland and tasteless. I am unsure what they did to the pizza but it is terrible now. I used to enjoy the pizza when they opened, and up to about a month or so ago. Then something happened, the crust was flat and lifeless, the toppings were uninspiring, and everything seemed to have taken a nose dive.. What did they do? Will was my man here.. A great drink mixer, and sure enough, he is gone now. Every week they seemed to have new staff, and now they seem to lack anyone capable of mixing a good drink. What's going on with this place? If the turnover rate in the back is as bad as it is in the front, that probably explains it. I've seen the so-called 'owner' running around a few times, and he looks angry and confused, someone that is clearly in over their heads without a clue about how to run a good joint. I don't expect this place to last to be honest. It seems to be getting worse with each passing week, and now the pizza isn't even the saving grace here. What a terrible thing to behold, and it proves that no matter how much money you throw at something, if you are a bad leader it won't make a difference.

We went to Hamlin Corner with some new friends after a Saturday movie at the Main Art Theater (from which it is in walking distance). It was pretty loud (though that may have been because Final Four games were on). Fortunately, our friends found us a table in a back area out of the main room. The food was quite decent. Onion rings were large, good if not amazing, with an OK dipping sauce. I have an interesting take on a Greek salad: yellow beets, tomato, mixed lettuces and feta slices laid horizontally with an aioli dressing. Margarita pizza was OK, again nothing special. Other veggie options are available, too (a couple of apps, black bean burger, mac and cheese, a sandwich that can be made veggie). The place does feature lots of good beers and other potent potables. My wife's hard cider was a step up from the kind she buys at the market. As a person in my fifties, I felt a bit old at Hamlin Corner. The live room makes conversation difficult (perhaps the younger-than-us clientele have the necessary aural acuity to cut through the cacophony). Because of this and the sports emphasis, this place will not be a top choice if I'm in the area. However, it will do nicely if need be.

This place has a wonderful atmosphere and food. Their plates are massive and very tasty. We ate breadsticks, a burger,However, their service is deplorable. We had to keep tracking our waitress down. We came here for trivia. I would return again, but something needs to be done about their service.

I went to Hamlin Corner last night for a drink. Here's the breakdown: The good: the interior is brand new, and has a nice, modern design. There is a slightly elevated area to the left of the bar that offers bottle service on the weekends. There are tvs everywhere. Our bartender introduced himself to us, and shook our hands. He was friendly and competent. Since it was a Tuesday night, it was pretty dead in there. The beer prices were pretty reasonable - two well beers, one bottled beer and one diet coke costs us $16. The bad: I'm usually not into any kind of place that offers bottle service - especially in downtown Royal Oak, where there are a hundred other places to grab a drink. I'm more of a low key kind of girl - but I can see how this would appeal to the trendy younger kids on the weekends. I didn't eat anything, so I can't comment on the food. But for drinks on an off night, it was a solid choice. I'd go back.

Worst service ever. Will not be returning. Waited over 20 minutes before we received our menus and another 15 minutes before we received our drinks. My boyfriend ordered an All Day IPA and I ordered water. Our waitress brought us a pint of blue moon with an orange and no water! She insisted it was All Day IPA but agreed to exchange it. After another 10 minutes she brought the correct beer and my water out. We asked to order before she took off and disappeared and she reluctantly took our order. We waited 65 minutes from that time on for our food! We flagged another waitress down at the 45 min mark to see why a bean burger and an order of sliders would take so long! Finally our waitress returned and said our food was still not ready! Every table around us received the food and they clearly arrived and ordered AFTER we did! The restaurant was not crowded and there were many open tables. We ended up canceling our order and leaving!! We went down the street to a brand new restaurant and despite being crowded, we received our food within 16 minutes! Shame on you Hamlin Corner for not addressing your ineffective wait staff! Read your Google and Yelp reviews, listen to your customers feedback, and improve your service! We will not be returning and will be sure to share our awful experience to prevent anyone else from wasting their time!

Waitress was non existent - but anyone I could flag down seemed helpful. Decent food, excellent draft list.

Good food. Interesting and comfortable pub decor. They have vegitarian options and specialty desserts made just for them. Win win win. Don't get into the negative reviews. The staff is friendly efficient and full of good suggestions. If you get to metro Detroit, try this place.

I love this place. It's quieter which is nice, but this place is underrated. The seats and decor are nice. The service is great. You need o try the turkey burger with the guacamole. We came in to et one this morning and I was so impressed with their brunch menu we decided to try something new. Once again the food was amazing. The drinks were perfect. I have taken people from out of town just to show them this place. I have to admit I was shocked when I first moved here and this place was so good. Good service and food is hard to find in this time.

The 2 stars is merely for the spacious and classy interior. There are plenty of T.V.s for watching sports, which is nice. However, the food was less than desirable. My boyfriend and I went on a Saturday night to have dinner and meet up with friends. We split a House Salad, which consisted of lettuce, onion, and blocks of yellow cheese. I was hoping for at least some tomatoes and cucumbers. The "Italian dressing" had odd chunks in it and was creamy - not what I expected. We ordered the "Spicy Hawaiian" pizza since both of us like spicy food and thought it would have a nice kick. Turns out, it was so incredibly spicy that our mouths were on fire. The cooks definitely went a little sauce-happy with that Thai chili sauce! We were so uncomfortable that we sent the pizza back and ordered the quesadilla appetizer instead, which was fairly greasy and lacked flavor. Our waitress was accommodating, but disappeared by the end of our meal. We had to flag down another waitress in order to pay our bill. After about 9:30, the place got really crowded and was extremely loud. I couldn't really carry on much of a conversation without feeling like I was yelling to the person across the table. This place is not ideal for conversing with friends - definitely more of a nightclub/party scene after dinnertime hours. Overall, the experience was very disappointing and I only would recommend it for getting plastered and dancing to top 40's music.

This place has a severe identity crisis. On one hand, it is screaming out "Upscale Sports Bar!" But then you walk in anytime after 8pm and it screams out "Blackfinn!" and "Douchebags!" Is it truly that hard to open up a true upscale sports bar without marketing it to "that" crowd of people with too much gel in their hair and too much of daddy's money in thier pocket? Anyone ever been to the Yard House in any of it's locations? THAT'S how you do upscale sports bar. I dont want a dance floor in my sports bar. I don't want VIP tables nor lines of women with too much makeup. What I do want, is a great beer list, TV's galore, an above avearge food list, and polite expediant service. Locally, One Eyed Bettys gives me most of that but let's cut it out with these new 'hot spots" opening up that pretend to be something they're not. Potato skins were just ok....

Called a late primos pizza order in at 12:55 am. I was told it would arrive in 45-60 minutes. Called 70 minutes later to check on it. Spoke to Kara the manager and informed her we were going to bed in 20 minutes. She said driver was out. Waited 25 minutes more...called back. Kara said driver couldn't find my address. I gave my phone number initially when placing the order and then again when I spoke to Kara the 2nd time. She seemed completely out of it, 70 later. My credit card was charged $25 dollars for a large margarita pizza that never came. How hard is it to call someone if there are issues if you have their phone number? Hopefully I get credited back the charge.

The entire reason I'm even writing this review is because of the AMAZING service my group received at Hamlin Corner! A group of 10 of us were there for dinner and drinks and I was immediately impressed that our waitress, Meghan, was already taking down everyone's names to allow us to have separate checks. While this may not seem like a big deal, it was so nice to actually have a waitress that didn't roll her eyes or immediately get rude when a large group asks for separate checks. She was also SUPER attentive the entire meal and even offered us complimentary garlic breadsticks for the table. I was so impressed and happy with the service I received here! The only reason I am not giving Hamlin Corner 5 stars is because the food didn't blow me away and is sort of on the pricey side but overall, it was worth it and I will definitely be back and will recommend it to my friends!

I've been to this place about four times, twice for friends' birthdays. The place inside isn't all that bad. The setup is kind of odd ...there are tables in random spots, there is a random walkway that looks like a long wheelchair walkway, etc. It's not too hard to get a drink, which is always a good thing. The dance floor is of the smaller size and is circular, but it's kind of laughable because perched around the dance floor are VIP tables for people that want to feel like they are in some fancy New York nightclub or something. This bar is not that fancy at all, but they want you to think it is. HOWEVER, the worst part about all of it is the way the place is ran. It's relatively new and (I hope) they are working the kinks out, but it is abysmal. If you show up at 10:30 PM on a Saturday night, you probably won't even get in until around 11:45 PM -- or you might not get in at all. My group of six people waited almost an hour and stood at the front of the line and would not get let in, mainly because there are two lines (a "regular line and a VIP line) -- and then random people just walk in between both lines and the bouncers let them in! A group of at least 20 guys in suits walked up and in without waiting ...it was complete BS. And all the while the bouncer wouldn't let us in; rather, he just lit up a cigarette and pretended he was a hot shot. It's a decent bar with some attractive females here and there, but the long wait isn't worth it. The place has no "soul" and even though it tried to be hip and different, it's just like the other bars strung around Royal Oak -- if not worse. Paying cover to get into the place on the weekend just makes it less appealing.

Fairly upscale compared to the Hamlin pubs. Decent service, solid beer selection, lots of tv's, huge bar. A lot of the seating is barstool style and not really great for if you have kids. The breadsticks are great, nice complimentary item for sure. We had the pretzels and cheese which were cut cool and well presented. The cheese was fairly mild, which the ladies at the table liked. Ordered the po boy sandwich, was delicious and had some zing to it. Bread was perfectly toasted, chips were good. The pickle... I know it's odd but it tasted funky. Wife had a burger, said it was good/average. Was more impressed with the service. She actually liked the pickles, so who knows. Her one friend had a small pizza, bigger than expected. She too liked the atmosphere. Her other two girlfriends ordered the mac'n cheese and had higher hopes than what was delivered. Both said presentation was 5 stars but it "lacked any flavor" and one added salt to give it some omph. Neither would order it again. Everyone agreed overall it's a great addition to Royal Oak and a welcome change to the regular spots. Parking, as always, is a PITA, but hey, it's RO. We'll all be back again!

Went here tonight for the first time, for a speed dating event. I was curious to try it too, I go to Emagine RO a lot and this is literally right in front of it. We had pizzas already ordered for the event, I tried a mushroom/onion/pepper one and it was decent. The restaurant gave us these tiny vodka drinks on the house, tasted kinda cherry-ish - not bad. The atmosphere was pretty nice, it's a sports bar but isn't super loud (I was there 630-9pm, it might get louder later though). The lights dimmed at around 8 which was a little awkward for speed dating LOL. I looked at their menu online after, pizzas seemed pricy but they do a happy hour, M-Fri 4-7pm with $1 slices which is pretty cheap. They've got a late night deal that's the same, too, and drink specials for both times. So I will hopefully be back to try that soon.

A welcome addition to the downtown Royal Oak scene! My husband and I had dinner and drinks before a movie and caught a Tigers game on as well. The decor inside is sharp and there are lots of TVs. Looking around, I couldn't see any seats where you wouldn't have a view of what's on. I love the sports ticker marquee behind the bar--very cool! We started with the nachos for an appetizer. They had the usual fixins except for the meat--delicious braised beef. Yum! There are plenty of other appetizers, all slightly different takes on the standard American offerings. They've got build-your-own burgers, sandwiches, salads, entrees, and good-looking pizza. My husband opted for the cheesesteak sandwich and I had the cherry chicken salad. Both were delicious! My salad had Cabernet-soaked cherries and pulled, not grilled, chicken. See what I mean about a slightly different take on traditional food? I really want to try that pizza next time. Tables around us were ordering it like crazy. And the beer, the star of the show. They have 48 beers on tap and two wines as well. There are a ton of bottled choices too. We did learn that they won't rotate their taps as frequently as Betty's or the Berkley Front (bummer!) but I did love the selection. It's enough to come here more than those two because of their food menu. But please, Hamlin Corner, consider rotating them once you've found your groove!

I was excited to see a new place open up in that spot and I am willing to try them again but my first experience there on May 27th was mixed. Our party of 7 was seated quickly which was nice, they put us in the banquet room but it didn't feel like we were taken out of the mix of the restaurant. I got the Thai chili wings with a side of the "hotter" sauce and I loved them. My boyfriend got the bucket of mussels which he liked as well. My fish and chips though came out soggy as did the fries and his pizza tasted like "it came from a gas station". Our server Brandi was cheerful and attentive. Liked her alot. I'm willing to go back, getting Matt back in there is going to be a struggle.

Hamlin Corner is a welcomed addition to Royal Oak. It's always nice to have a new place to go and watch a game or grab a drink. I went on a Thursday night for a glass of wine and the spinach artichoke dip. The place was packed and had a good atmosphere. Lots of tvs, a huge interior space and outside seating and what looks like a good menu. I think this place won't have a problem doing business in Royal Oak and will only get better as wait staff gets more experienced. I will definitely be back!

awful does not even begin to describe the food at this establishment. The pizza uses govt cheese and tasted worse them gas station fare. The fish tacos are among the worst I have ever tasted. Even the fries taste like the kind you would eat in elementary school from the ugly school lunch lady. Why this place even bothers to sell food is beyond me.

i've been eating PRIIMO'S Pizza for over 25 years...last night's from Hamlin was the worst, ever. The pizza slid from side to side in the box, the cheese was oozing off one side onto the box, there was no sauce, the bottom was burnt....and worst, there was nothing about it other than the box which was Primo's like. Never again.

I'm not a fan of Blackfinn and it is obvious they are going for a similar vibe. However, they have more TV as seem to be trying to be even snoodier. The food is ok and is a slightly elevated bar food. However the bar is very lacking. It's the typical drinks and booze you would expect anywhere. I don't see where the differentiate themselves. That being said, they are extending the downtown further down Main St. which is awesome.

Will makes the place if your drinking. His cocktails are always spot on. Great place to go to when a game is on not necessarily the place you want to go to watch a game. Management is always friendly and handles situation in a very professional manner. The chef always seems to have good lunch specials but pizza is always a safe bet.

Update: dam it's been a year and I haven't been back to this god awful place till I decided to stop and get some primos , not realizing this place was rolling in the sack with hamlins corner. Goddamit primos how could you do this to me! I wanted ribs and a chicken strip snack meal in a f#%^ing box with those big thick steak fries but for some reason you serve pizza and hamlins menu only wtf! Hamlins food is atrocious you could at least fool me and throw it in a primos box. So again zero stars for Hamlin corner and it's ratchet girlfriend/or boyfriend if your into that primos. The five star rating is not a mistake those five stars are for the two reds R&P.

Stopped in tonight for the first time for the Tuesday "Burger & Beer" special. My husband and I liked the atmosphere. The service was ok. The burgers were awful. Because of traveling, my husband and I have had burgers several times over the last 10 days and these were by far the worst. We had burgers from In and Out in CA that put these to shame. We will probably try them once more because the pizzas looked really good. Hopefully they taste good too.

I'll preface this review by saying that: 1) I'm surprised by the negative reviews but 2) I've only been there for happy hour. That said, they have some of the best nachos in the tri-county area. Perfection. I'll definitely stop by for those again in the near future. The service was also very good (we sat at the bar). Laid back but attentive servers with personality. Lastly, I'd venture to say that it's a good spot to watch a game if you're a Tigers, Lions, or Pistons enthusiast. Solid setup of large tvs throughout the restaurant.

Love this place and a great addition to downtown Royal Oak. The beer list is excellent and I have yet to have a bad meal there. If you haven't had Primo's Pizza yet, it's legit. I've also had the Nachos and the Quesadilla- both of which were great. Set up for watching the game is good too. I'm not a fan of bars that don't play the audio during games, especially big games, and Hamiln doesn't disappoint. Hard to find a seat in the place where you wouldn't have a good view of a game. During football season, every game is on. Haven't been there late on a Friday or Saturday, so I can't comment on how it is then. Staff is very friendly and prices are reasonable. I'll continue to make this my main place to watch a game.

It is like they hired every clown in town, but instead of the clowns serving their patrons they sit out back playing dice. Silly clowns. The fish tacos are decent

My friends and I had the best time here! They offer excellent service for literally everything. We came in initially to watch the Michigan vs. Notre Dame game. We ended up staying once the DJ arrived and partied with an amazing crowd of people. The bartenders were actively attending everyone and the music was awesome. I have to say its Royal Oak's best hot spot right now and worth visiting on your next night out!

Very interesting menu here-pizza, small plates and entrees---- all sound great.. I had one of their always soups----chicken dumpling. It was excellent. Then I ordered the smoked salmon tacos small plate---very tasty. My wife ordered the Mediterranean wrap and loved it. Others in our group got the steak bowl, the fish tacos, and the chicken quesadillas and all were good. Service was fair for a very busy place. The drinks were a bit high, but ok. They have a million beers.

I have been here twice, and was disappointed both times. One comes in with the notion that this a fun, laid back bar, and then walks into a total disaster. I would be more forgiving of the claustrophobic atmosphere and overpriced drinks if the staff had an ounce of professionalism. I can truly say that I have never been treated more rudely; the bouncers act like a gang of cronies who smirk at everyone who is not on their level. One of the 2 nights I came, a large group of us had a reservation, which we confirmed well in advance. Upon arrival, we were rudely told that we never made this reservation, and that the mix-up was our fault. The staff was not apologetic and hardly accommodating, the hallmarks of poor customer service.

Beautiful space. Great, extensive beer list. But, potato skins are $8 for 3 uneventful skins. AND the bartender was dreadful!! Lesson = just because you have large, sloppy breasts falling out of your shirt does not mean that you can get away with not having any interest in doing your job well or smiling every once in a while. You made us uncomfortable. We really wanted to enjoy our time there, but we will only return if her silent, pouty face is not behind the bar.

I had high hopes for this place, in spite of the fact that I feared it would be just like Black Finn as far as "reputation." Maybe you already know what I mean there... We had a large party of around 10-12 people and we came to snack and drink. We were there to spend money and planned on staying for a while. We arrived late afternoon/early evening and were able to score one of the nice large tables in the bar area just inside the patio doors - prime location to enjoy both indoors and outdoors. Our server was pleasant but clearly way too busy to handle all of the tables she was expected to service. We didnt see enough of her honestly but we were understanding because of the "newness" of the business. (In contrast, friend of ours opted to go to the dining room and have dinner, and there server was by every 90 seconds, appearing like the servers in that area were only assigned 2 tables (??). Perhaps they should have distributed the servers better. The really "bad" part of our experience was that one of the people in our party ordered an appetizer and promptly found the longest hair cooked into it - it was at least 12" long. After that, the party was over - and we took our business to Ronin instead. When we drove by later that night, the place was jumping. But honestly, I couldn't help think it was nothing more than another douche-y bar. And hey, the food ting ---- we probably won't be back just because of that. It's really pretty though.

Stopped in in the evening with my son for a late dinner and was greeted immediately by the server. Plenty of well placed TVs with various sporting events including, of course the Tigers game. The menu is strong. Various sandwiches and tasty looking apps. The beer selection is also a strong showing. I decided on a Reuben with coleslaw instead of kraut. let me tell you, I am picky about my Reuben and this sandwich was outstanding. Very well grilled, generous slices of corned beef, not lunch meat mind you and home made chips on the side. The coleslaw was creamy and well drained. I had a Dragonsmead Final Absolution and it too was delicious. For those of us familiar with the iconic pizza in Birmingham, Hamlin serves up Primo's Pizza too.

My first gripe: Branding difficulty. Is it "Hamlin's Corner," "Hamlin Corners," "Hamlin Corner" or god forbid "Hamlin Corner's?" I've seen all four used in the establishment's promotional materials and for those us who know better, it's kind of infuriating. Waited 15 minutes for three mimosas on a Sunday afternoon when the place was hardly busy. Although the food came out efficiently, the server was either too slow to be on top of her game or was somehow in the weeds... The food was good, not a bad deal all around, but something about this place rubbed me the wrong way. Not sure whether it was the poor marketing and the big "opening weekend" fuss they put out on the social media (trust me, all hype), or the to-be-expected service hiccups on opening weekend. I'll give it another shot when they fire their marketing and social media person and/or iron out their service issues.

(3)Laura F.
The bar staff requires a lot of training like not continuously flipping hair around bar, squatting on top of the liquor bottles, etc.
(1)Andi O.

(1)Mike B.

(2)Rachel E.
Eh. Just...

Drinks are fine but my Cobb salad was the saltiest thing I've ever had. I honestly don't think anyone working here has ever tried it.
(3)heather t.
Improvement opportunities there
(3)Ray B.

Un Real!
(5)Andrea H.
Cool place to go to watch sports and hang out. BUT, we went on a Thursday night and were told we would have about a 15-20 minute wait....40 minutes later we finally got a table. Im giving them 3 stars because I wasn't impressed with the food. I got the chicken and waffles and it was more of an appetizer. What was odd is that it didn't come with dipping sauces for the chicken tenders (which were obviously frozen). My fiancé got the Mac and cheese, it was a very small portion and he was hungry afterwards. Ill give it another shot only because they have a great beer selection.
(3)Jill P.
I really like this bar. Best new addition to royal oak! Great food! They even serve primos pizza which is wonderful.
(5)Joseph F.
$22 for mediocre mac and cheese and a Stella. I know it's downtown Royal Oak so I should expect these kind of prices but I just didn't see or experience anything special or exceptional about this place. The service was good and the staff were very friendly but the menu was about as boring as it gets.
(2)Matt C.

(4)Kelly D.
They charge cover for guys, and inside the music is way too loud and the crowd is very black finn. Tables are "reserved" outside is very small. Our waitress was really nice but this is pretty typical Royal Oak.
(2)Chris G.
(2)Janice P.
(2)Drew H.
(3)Trish P.

(1)Jeph W.
(1)Mike C.

(1)Nicole S.
(4)McKena W.
I always have a great time at Hamlin. Great food, great beer selection, great bar tenders!
(5)Amy H.
(4)Tom R.
(1)Billy D.
(2)Nia E.
We really enjoyed yourselves last night. Our food was just right and we ordered a variety of things. We had the salmon & grits, chicken tenders & fries, steak bites and sliders. The DJs were awesome as well. No complaints and yes we will go back.
(5)Shane W.
(2)Nick T.
(5)Christina R.
(3)Ted H.
(2)Avi K.
The place we nothing like what the reviews suggested. We had a few drinks and Lauren served as well.
(5)Jason J.
I really want to like this place more, but the service is hit or miss. Mostly miss. The beer prices are too pricey. $5 for a miller lite,no thanks. Wednesday trivia night is great. It's really the only night worth going.
(3)Bill B.
(3)Ashley M.
This place has a wonderful atmosphere and food. Their plates are massive and very tasty. We ate breadsticks, a burger,However, their service is deplorable. We had to keep tracking our waitress down. We came here for trivia. I would return again, but something needs to be done about their service.
(3)Rebecca C.
(3)Mary D.
(1)Tricia R.
Waitress was non existent - but anyone I could flag down seemed helpful. Decent food, excellent draft list.
(3)Tonya L.
Good food. Interesting and comfortable pub decor. They have vegitarian options and specialty desserts made just for them. Win win win. Don't get into the negative reviews. The staff is friendly efficient and full of good suggestions. If you get to metro Detroit, try this place.
(5)Aaron K.
(5)Allie J.

This bar is great to watch a game at, came here a lot to watch football with my friends. Always had great service, I think our usual servers name was Alex. Would recommend this place to anyone.

Love the food and beer selection. Delish! I highly recommend the Cherry Chicken Salad. Mike is a great bartender and always remembers who I am.

awful does not even begin to describe the food at this establishment.

Night at Hamlin = Absolute poverty. Avoid this place like the plague. From patrons to the staff, terrible experience 2 for 2... Never again. Stay away!!!!!!!
